A little planning before painting day keeps the project on schedule and your home comfortable while the work happens. Here's what we ask of homeowners and what our crew handles.
Before we arrive
- Finalize colors. Have colors and sheens chosen for each room. If you're undecided, we can paint samples at the estimate.
- Clear small items. Put away valuables, picture frames, decor and anything fragile from shelves and surfaces.
- Take down wall art and curtains if you'd rather handle them yourself. We can remove and rehang hardware for you.
- Plan for pets and kids. Choose a room or area that stays off-limits during the work.
- Point out problem spots like cracks, stains or nail pops so they're included in prep.
What our crew takes care of
- Moving and covering furniture, and protecting floors with drop cloths.
- Removing outlet covers and switch plates, and masking fixtures.
- Filling holes and cracks, sanding, caulking and spot-priming.
- Cutting clean lines at ceilings and trim and rolling even coats.
- Daily cleanup, and a final walkthrough with you.
Living in your home during the project
We usually work room by room so the rest of the house stays usable. Low-odor and zero-VOC paints are available if anyone in the home is sensitive to smells. Keeping windows open and fans running helps paint dry and clears any odor quickly.
After the paint dries
Paint feels dry within hours but takes longer to fully cure. Wait a few days before scrubbing walls or pushing furniture tight against them. Ask us for a small container of each color for future touch-ups.
